Case of the Week 105

Here is a special case in honor of Valentines day. The following section of lung was removed due to the presence of a nodule that mimicked a lung carcinoma. However, on sectioning and H&E staining, the following was seen. Identification?

Bonus question - what does this case have to do with Valentines day???

I like the heart pattern in the lung section that is the background. Because of the hooklet it looks like a cestode.

We conclude that this is a heart worm which has been thrown out of the heart and into the lung where it has led to an infarct. nice case.

I see the thick cuticle but internal morphology does not look like Dirofilaria seen in the text books. Good cse and cant wait for the answer
